Welcome to the Ukiah Rod & Gun Club
The Ukiah Rod & Gun Club has been successfully gaining members, knowledge and recognition since 1945. Our main purpose is to help our expanded community in the restoration of our streams and rivers for fish and wildlife habitat. In order to facilitate this purpose we have several important ongoing projects. We work closely with both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and Army Corps of Engineers. Our main facility is the Bill Townsend Conservation Fish Hatchery, which was dedicated at Coyote Valley, north of Ukiah in March 2004.
Along with the restructuring of the spawning habitat for salmon and steelhead in the Russian River and its tributaries, the Club is involved in restocking many locations annually with adult fish for imprint, spawning and recreational fishing.
We currently have a membership of 80 persons, some of whom are directly involved with replenishing several other important habitats, including wood ducks along the Russian River.
Also, the Rod & Gun Club sponsors the annual Pike Minnow Derby (Squawfish abatement lottery). Three major local meals are held to raise funds to support these projects. In Ukiah each June we hold the Salmon Feed BBQ and raffle, while in October it is the Wild Game Feed. Our members help sponsor the 4th of July Salmon Feed at Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg and the redevelopment of the Mill Creek Park and picnic facility. Please check out our history and current projects on this site.
The Club is pleased to see your interest in our activities and hope we can cause you to join our endeavors to restore the fish and wildlife habitats of our area!
The Club is a California nonprofit, tax exempt corporation, comprised of local sportsmen who are greatly concerned about the fisheries. The founding purposes are the conservation, protection, preservation, propagation and restoration of Fish, Wildlife, Natural Resources, and the education of the public.
The Ukiah Rod and Gun Club, in cooperation with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, plans to assist in the recovery of the Chinook Salmon in the Russian River. The Club maintains a Conservation Fish Hatchery adjacent to the Lake Mendocino Steelhead Egg Collection and Imprint facilities, located at the base of Coyote Valley Dam.
